Sundays - May 1 through October 30 - Hours 11a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays - July 2 - September 4 - Hours 11a.m. to 5:00 p.m

Holidays - Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day - Hours 11a.m. to 5p.m.

Weekdays - The Fox River Trolley Museum is not open on weekdays except for charters and special reservations.

Charter Trips -  are available during normal operating hours as well as before and after. See our charter page or contact us at info@foxtrolley.org or call 847-697-4676 for more information!

Schedule

Round trip between the Castlemuir at the main museum location in South Elgin and Blackhawk Station in the Jon Duerr Forest Preserve takes 35 - 40 minutes.

Trains operate on the following schedule departing Castlemuir (South Elgin) at:

  • 11:00 AM
  • 11:45 AM
  • 12:30 PM
  • 1:15 PM
  • 2:00 PM
  • 2:45 PM
  • 3:30 PM
  • 4:15 PM
Note: Departure times are subject to change.

Admission

Ticket price includes admission to the museum and unlimited rides all day.

Some special events (listed on the museum calendar) require advance reservations and charge different rates.

South Elgin, IL 60177  

The Fox River Trolley Museum is located on Illinois Route 31, three blocks south of State Street in South Elgin, IL.

From Chicago and the east: Take the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) or US Route 20 west to Elgin. Exit on Illinois 31 southbound. Take Route 31 to the Museum.

From the west and northwest: Take the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) or US Route 20 east to Elgin. Exit on Illinois 31 southbound. Take Route 31 to the Museum.

From the south: Take Illinois Route 59 north to Illinois Route 64. Turn west on Route 64 to Illinois Route 31 in St Charles. Take Route 31 north to the Museum.

By train: Take Metra commuter train to Elgin on the Milwaukee District - West Line. The station is approximately three miles north of the museum. On Saturdays, connection is available via Pace Bus route 801 at the Elgin Station to Spring Street, South Elgin, four blocks north to the Museum. On Sundays and holidays, a taxi or rideshare is needed since there is no service on Pace route 801.

Bunny Train South Elgin and Polar Express South Elgin trains board at Blackhawk Station in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, NOT the museum.
The Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, 35W003 Route 31, South Elgin, IL is located approximately two (2) miles south of the Fox River Trolley Museum on the east side of IL Route 31. See Google Maps for individualized directions.
