PLAN FOR FALL AND WINTER FUN NOW AT THE FOX RIVER TROLLEY MUSEUM!
The calendar may say June, but reservations are being taken for the Fox River Trolley Museum's most popular events of the year! Tickets went on sale Tuesday online at http://www.foxtrolley.org/reservations.html for the museum's popular Polar Express and Halloween Haunted Ghost Story trains as well as the museum's newest event, "Santa's Express."
The reserved-seating, after-hours Halloween Ghost Story Trains entertain children, their daddies and mummies! Those who dare will be led by lantern through the woods to a roaring campfire along the shores of the Fox River for ghoulishly delightful ghost stories, s'mores and more. Trains leave each evening at 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. Fares for this special train are $10 for all ages. No passes will be honored. "Santa's Trolley," November 26-28, is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. It features a reading of Clement Clarke Moore's traditional Christmas classic, "The Night Before Christmas." Those who ride will be magically transported from the boarding point, at Blackhawk station in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, on Illinois 31 in St. Charles Township, to the North Pole to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. Each child will receive a special gift. There will be live music, a chance to sing your favorite carols, and plenty of hot chocolate and cookies served by Santa's elves. Tickets are $20 for all ages, with trains leaving ach day at 2:55, 4, 5:05, 6:10 and 7:15 p.m. No passes will be honored.
The Polar Express, Dec. 4, 5, 11, 18 and 19. Chris Van Allsburg's best-selling book, "The Polar Express," comes alive for a sixth consecutive holiday season aboard the museum's trolley cars. Board the extra-fare, all-reserved Polar Express at Blackhawk station in the Jon Duerr Forest Preserve, on Illinois 31 in St. Charles Township, for a ride north to meet Santa and experience the magic of the season. Fares are $20 apiece for all ages, with trains at 2:55, 4, 5:05, 6:10 and 7:15 p.m. each day. Many children come in their pajamas! Reservations again are a must; each year, all space sold out weeks in advance and in 2008. some trains sold out as early as mid-July.
Tickets for all three events will be available only from the museum's Web site, and will go on sale in June. No tickets for the three events will be sold day-of-event, and there will be no refunds or exchanges unless a train is canceled.
The Fox River Trolley Museum is close to home, a real slice of history - and it's fun.
The museum, at 361 S. LaFox St., on Illinois 31 in the village of South Elgin, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the memories of Chicago's once-burgeoning electric railroad industry. Cars in operation or on display represent all three of the major Chicago interurban (inter-city) electric railways as well as Chicago's "L" and streetcar lines. All museum workers are volunteers dedicated to recreating a bygone era in mass transportation.
