Halloween and Holiday Trains
DON'T MISS OUT - RESERVE SPACE NOW
FOR THE FOX RIVER TROLLEY MUSEUM'S
SPECIAL HALLOWEEN AND HOLIDAY TRAINS!
The calendar still says summer. But because of heavy demand, the Fox River Trolley Museum has added a third day of holiday season Polar Express trips!
The latest to be opened to the public are trips at 5:10, 6:20 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.
One Dec. 2 train is sold out, and only a handful of tickets remain for the other Dec. 2 trips, said Bob Blaus, event coordinator. Tickets are also moving briskly for Saturday, Dec. 9.
Chris Van Allsburg's best-selling book, “The Polar Express,” comes alive aboard the museum's trolley cars. Riders board the all-reserved Polar Express at Blackhawk station in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, on Illinois 31 in St. Charles Township, for a ride north to meet Santa and experience the magic of the season. Fares are $6.50 for adults and seniors, and $5.50 for children 1 to11.
While trains can be added for the Polar Express holiday season runs, the museum won't be able to add additional trains for its Halloween weekend all-reserved event, the Halloween Hiawatha Ghost Story Train. Tickets are available for the Sunday, Oct. 29 trains only; Oct. 28 tickets are sold out.
Both evenings, the reserved-seating, after-hours Ghost Story Trains entertain children, their daddies, mummies and even grandmummies! Those who dare can experience a campfire, hot chocolate and s'mores along the shores of the Fox, will hear a ghoulishly delightful ghost tale throughout the journey based on the rich history of the area, and will hike to the grave sites of two of General Winfield Scott's soldiers, who died during the Blackhawk Wars.
Halloween Hiawatha Ghost Story Train fares also are $6.50 for adults and seniors, and $5.50 for children 1-11. Trains will depart at 5 and 7 p.m. each night from the museum's Castlemuir depot, at 361 S. LaFox St., in the village of South Elgin.
Reservations are a must for both special events; the past two years, all space sold out weeks in advance. No tickets will be sold the night of the event, and no reservations can be taken over the phone. Instead, reserve your space by visiting the museum's Web site, at www.foxtrolley.org/reservations.html to download a reservation form or by writing the museum special events coordinator at P.O. Box 315, South Elgin, Ill.,60177.
The Fox River Trolley Museum is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the memories of Chicago's once-burgeoning electric railroad industry. Cars in operation or on display represent all three of the major Chicago interurban (inter-city) electric railways as well as Chicago's “L” and streetcar lines. All museum workers are volunteers dedicated to recreating a bygone era in mass transportation.
