RIVERFEST EXPRESS AND FOX RIVER TROLLEY MUSEUM TROLLEYFEST - 10 YEARS OF GREAT TIMES!

South Elgin celebrates ten years of fun, food and music on the banks of the Fox River as Riverfest Express returns August 17-20.

“Wow, 10 years of fun, food and great entertainment. This year will be no exception,” said Leo Snyder and Mary Van Winkle, co-chairpersons of this year's event.

Once again, Riverfest Express games, live entertainment, a car show, a craft show, carnival rides and attractions, fireworks and more. And once again, the Fox River Trolley Museum's Trolleyfest will coincide Aug. 19-20, when everything that can run will run at the museum, on Route 31 in South Elgin. It's a combination designed to delight the young and old.

Each year, the Fox Valley's most special children get a night of their own to preview Riverfest Express. This year's “Special Night for Special Children,” dedicated to physically and mentally challenged children and their families, is Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Children who register and their families will enjoy free carnival rides, food and entertainment, provided by local businesses and volunteers. The Special Night, which was awarded the 2002 Governor's Home Town Award, draws more children each year. To be part of this special night, you must register your child in advance. A registration form is available on the Riverfest Express Web site, at http://riverfestexpress.com/special_night.html.

Riverfest Express opens its doors to the public at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, when Deluxury delivers a blend of blues, Motown, rock, country and gospel from the Riverfest Express entertainment stage in Panton Mill Park, at State and Water Streets. Windy City Carnivals is back. It will provide periodic all-you-can ride specials during Riverfest, unchaged from last year.

Visit the food and beverage tents between 5 and 10 p.m., and stay around for the fireworks, beginning at 9:30 p.m. and sponsored both Thursday and Sunday by ATM Enterprises and American Eagle Bank.

Chase Daniels brings country music in the spirit of Goerge Strait, Waylon Jennings and Garth Brooks to the entertainment stage at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, while High Infidelity plays classic rock beginning at 9:45 p.m. The food and beverage tents will be open Friday between 5 and 11 p.m., as well as the carnival rides.

Trolleyfest begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trolley Museum, 361 S. LaFox St., a short distance south of Riverfest Express. Ride trolley cars that span a century of Chicago-area mass transportation, including the 1902 Chicago Aurora & Elgin R.R. #20, the oldest operating interurban car in the United States (weather permitting). Rides on the museum's trolleys will be given from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Carnival tickets are not good on the museum's trolley cars, nor will museum tickets be accepted by Windy City Carnivals. Fares are $3.50 for adults, $2 for seniors and children 3-11, and all-day passes will be sold exclusively for use on the trolley cars. Children under 3 ride the museum's trolley cars free.

Riverfest's food and beverage tents will open at noon and remain open till 11 p.m. Saturday. Carnival rides will remain in operation until 11 p.m. A craft show will take place in SEBA Park, just south of State Street, 11 a.m. till 5 p.m., and a full slate of entertainment is scheduled.
