The Fox River Trolley Museum is a great place for the whole family - EDUCATION
THROUGH DEMONSTRATION and FUN! There are now two destinations -
The Jon Duerr (Blackhawk) Forest Preserve and Castlemuir in South
Elgin. The Jon Duerr (Blackhawk) Forest Preserve line opened in
June 2002 is a new way to observe and enjoy nature as well as offering
a nostalgic trip back to an era when electric trolley cars were
part of everyday life.
A genuine old-time trolley transports you along an authentic railway which has
operated ever since Independence Day, 1896.
In addition to the ride, you can inspect a variety of antique trolleys
which cover a span of history from 1891 to 1952. Picnic tables are
available are available at the Museum and Jon Duerr (Blackhawk)
Forest Preserve. Hiking trails, fishing, bird watching, observing
prairie plants and just plain relaxing are part of the Blackhawk
Forest Preserve educational experience.
The Museum Store, located in the depot at Castlemuir, offers a variety of
merchandise related to the trolley era.
A visit to Fox River Trolley Museum is a fun educational experience for your
whole family!
